Best smartphone ever June 23, 2009 Tiberio Martinez (Venezuela) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I have been palm user for 10+ years, and tried many many smartphones before the Centro, included Motorola, Sony-Ericson, Nokia, and a HTC TyTN II.
I think almost all smartphones I had before the Centro, are far most "shiny and fancy" (far more expensive too), but none of them are even close of the Centro once you add 3rd party software, and customize the phone to adapt it to your own needs.
More than a smartphone, the Centro is PDA with phone and Internet.
The Centro, as it comes out of the box, is a very poor smartphone, but once you add the software you need, I have not found any better.
I have had my Centro for near 2 years and have never had any problems with the hardware. Last night, by accident I dropped half a beer over my Centro, and after a night in front of the heater, this morning the phone was like new.
My advice: This is an excellent smartphone which you can add almost anything you wish, but don't buy it if you don't think to add 3rd party software, because its native interface and included software is very poor.
My software recomendations:
Agendus, Nuvii Remote, Kinoma Player, Callrec, Astraware Games.
Far exceeded expectations March 31, 2010 B. L. Ridenhour (Hernando, MS) I'm over 2 years in, and mine's going strong even after the silver's worn off the plastic from time spent in my pocket. I can't believe how good this phone has been. I never expected the touchscreen or case or buttons or anything to endure what I've put it through ... I'm trying to buy another JIC this one finally decides to give up the ghost. That's the only reason I chanced upon these reviews.
I text like a madman, talk on the phone, email, Facebook, use a few apps and surf the web (mostly maps for driving). It isn't as convenient as a GPS unit or powerful as a mobile-web laptop, but I couldn't be more pleased with this (albeit dated) SmartPhone. The plan I have is a cherry deal, so I'm thinking the smartest thing for me to do is buy a backup, keep going month-to-month, and wait for this one to die...a day I dread, but warning signs or no, we all know it'll happen.
Good smart phone. May 13, 2009 A. Felipe Gonzalez Barroso 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I have been Palm user since 2005, and I have had 3 models: Treo 650 (3 1/2 years), Treo Pro (2 days), and now Palm Centro (one week). The Centro is smaller and lighter, the voice of the person who is calling is most clear and louder than the 650, it does not have antenna, and the camera has best resolution; but, on the other hand, the disadvantages are: the battery works 2 days against 5 of the 650, and the access to the memory card and the SIM is difficult, when in the 650 is very easy.
I do not recommend the Palm Treo Pro, because uses the Windows Mobile OS, that is difficult to use; open the Office documents slowly, the battery drains rapidly, less than one day, and the cover of the battery is very hard to remove it.
Worked for almost two years... February 1, 2010 L. Weltman (Fairfax,, VA USA) Phone recently stopped ringing, unless my earbud is attached. Once I answer, the speaker works just fine. It does work in vibrate mode. Have tried cleaning out the earbud jack, but that didn't help. I have treated the phone gently as long as I've owned it. Of course, I can upgrade to a new phone at a reduced price from AT&T if I'm willing to renew my 2-year service contract. AT&T no longer offers Palm phones. Maybe they know something...
A disappointing purchase of Treo Centro GSN Unlocked Phone from Amazon July 5, 2010 MCC When I purchased a Treo Centro GSM Unlocked Phone
Palm Centro Smartphone Unlocked with 1.2 MP Camera, MP3 player!! (Pink!!) Refurbished - Just Like New!!
I was expecting just that. The Centro arrived on time but it was not unlocked. After communicating my problem to customer support on June 7 I was assured that the information I sent was going to result in an unlock code and instructions sent to me by email soon after. It will be exactly a month in 3 days that has elapsed without a remedy of what was the supplier's neglect in the first place. The vendors credibility, and by implication Amazon's credibility, has been severely damaged with its behavior. I strongly advice against trusting the promise of delivering an unlocked cell phone!
